Slow Food Miami’s Edible Garden Program

Planting a fresher future for our children.

School Gardens Project

Thanks to a grant awarded to MSPCS by Slow Food Miami, our three year olds will be planting and growing two edible garden beds. The installation of the gardens will be on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. The students, with teacher help will plant, water and maintain the gardens as part of our Outdoor Learning Environment. Parents will be invited to the planting day, event date TBD.

Slow Food Miami is a unique program to address childhood nutritional issues and obesity. It goes beyond standard nutrition lessons by offering experiential learning in the garden and tasting guidance and support to help children learn healthier eating habits. Slow Food Miami is a non-profit, 100% volunteer organization comprised of local members who are passionate about good food, supporting local growers and celebrating Miami’s diversity. Slow Food Miami is the local chapter of Slow Food USA and the International Slow Food Association.

Slow Food Movement

Slow Food is an idea, a way of living and a way of eating. It is part of a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members in over 150 countries, which links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment.

A non-profit, member-supported association, Slow Food was founded in 1989 to counter the rise of fast food and fast life; the disappearance of local food traditions; and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes, and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.
