Admission Philosophy

Miami Shores Presbyterian Church School sets high standards for admission. In addition to strong academic credentials, the school seeks students with high ideals and values, those who will be motivated to fulfill their potential, and those students willing and able to participate enthusiastically in its programs. The Admission Team evaluates applicants entering our preschool using the Brigance Early Childhood Screen III and kindergarten through fifth grade using the NWEA MAP survey assessment in both reading and mathematics, as well as an interview process. This screening process reinforces our philosophy by providing a constant assessment tool to provide evidence of potential success in our program.

Admission Process

1. AGE REQUIREMENTS:
Kindergarten students must be five years of age by September 1 of that year or provide official documentation of successful completion of prekindergarten. Preschool students are placed in an age appropriate group based on their age by September 1 of that year. Students with summer birthdays or birthdays around September 1st will be assessed for the appropriate grade level. This age requirement follows consecutively throughout the grades.

2. TOUR:
Parents will visit and tour the school and meet with a member of the Admission Team. Students are welcomed to attend the tour as well.

3. FORMS:
Initial Registration includes an entrance assessment fee of $100 Elementary. Further instructions will be emailed to include the following:

  • Request for school records and Teacher Recommendation forms. Miami Shores Presbyterian Church School requires grades for the current and previous year, as well as submission of all standardized test results and evaluations.
  • Proof of the applicant’s birth date.
  • Immunization and health records as required by the State of Florida.
  • Online application

Other information:

  • We accept the Family Empowerment Scholarship as well as Gardner for students with unique abilities. We want to make clear that a parentally placed private school student with a disability does not have an individual right to receive some or all of the special education and related services that the child would receive if enrolled in a public school under the IDEA. The IDEA does not apply to private schools.  We are happy to have a conversation with you about the accommodations that your child may need and be entitled to at our school.
