Nursery Class

The MSPCS Nursery

From the time they are born, infants bond with adults, developing loving relationships that provide comfort and build confidence as they begin watching and listening to the world around them. The time from birth to 12 months is an amazing stage when infants grow from being completely helpless to demonstrating the beginning abilities to communicate and self-care. Communicating, developing relationships, emerging motor skills, and increasing cognitive development make this an exciting time for parents and teachers!

Our nurturing preschool teachers share the school’s vision to promote Spiritual knowledge, develop emotional growth and cultivate life readiness. Our school mission and vision begins with the preschool and continues through 5th Grade.

Young Toddlers

MSPCS Young Toddlers 12 - 24 months

Older infants moving into the young toddler stage are becoming mobile, allowing them to explore more of the world around them within sight of a familiar adult. Exciting developmental changes are taking place at this stage as children begin to refine their communication skills, allowing them to build knowledge more rapidly. Children in this age range continue to be naturally curious, especially when other children are present. The skills included in this booklet show your young toddler’s progress over the last several months. Increased mobility and fine motor skills, communication, developing relationships, and continuing cognitive development make this an exciting time for parents and teachers!

Pre K 2

Busy Bees

Older toddlers are becoming more independent and are beginning to demonstrate and communicate preferences as a means of control. They enjoy exploring and trying new things by themselves. While most relationships to this point have been developed with trusted adults, older toddlers are beginning to participate in side-by-side play with other children. Children will continue to refine gross and fine motor skills, and receptive and expressive vocabulary are increasing on a daily basis. Continued refining of mobility and fine motor skills development of self-concept, and continued cognitive development and vocabulary expansion make this an exciting time for parents and teachers!

Pre K 3

Teddy Bears and Little Sprouts

Three-year-olds enter the preschool environment full of curiosity and the ability to learn through their senses and play. Their conversation skills are becoming more refined as they talk about their interests and relate new ideas to past experiences. They are also beginning to develop friendships and are starting to understand the feelings of others. Children at this stage have an increased attention span, and are developing problem-solving skills, and are beginning to notice environmental print. The complexity of conversation skills and increased attentiveness make this an exciting time for parents and teachers!

Pre K 4

Sunflower Class

As children near the end of their preschool years, they display independence and imagination. They participate in lengthy conversations with correct grammar and complex sentences, asking questions to keep the conversation going. Preschoolers are starting to recognize numbers and letters, make letter-sound connections, and will be writing their names, some letters, and may use invented spelling. Preschoolers are able to learn new math concepts related to their day and regularly compare numbers, size, and length. They understand counting and can identify many shapes. Calendar concepts and knowledge of weather and seasons are developed. Watching children move from preschool to kindergarten is an exciting time for parents and teachers!
